QBlogger sale challenge

Like a lot of you, I bloody love shopping. But what I love even more is bagging a bargain and being in January, there are lots to be had everywhere you turn. So I was especially excited when Queensgate Shopping Centre gifted me a £50 gift card (which could be spent within the shopping centre) for my next Qblogger challenge. They set me the task of spending the money on products for a cosy nights in, perfect considering how dark and miserable it is here in the UK and now Christmas is over.

I’ll be honest, I was feeling pretty darn cocky with this challenge as saving money is definitely my forte. I relish the opportunity to get more for my money and Queensgate have such a wide variety of shops I knew I’d have lots to choose from.

Now for me, a cosy night starts with a bit of pampering so my first stop was Lush. A bath is a great way to get you in the mood for total relaxation and with so many glorious products in the sale, I was spoilt for choice. Trying not to waste too much time, I opted for the Golden Wonder bath bomb which combines sweet lemon and lime oils, great for leaving you in a glorious mood. At half price, I knew it would be a lovely start to my evening.

Working along the same train of thought, I stopped by The Body Shop and spent far too long sniffing their divine Christmas scents. I dithered between the frosted collection, finally selecting the Frosted Berries shower gel which is essentially heaven in a bottle. On reflection, I wish I’d bought more as it smells so delicious, a medley of juicy berries, vanilla and flowers. And for only £2.50 too! As well as the shower gel, you can even buy a body lotion, butter, sugar scrub and hand cream in the same scent. It would have been easy to spend half the money on just this range!

Now after bath time it’s straight into cosy clothes right? I used the challenge as an excuse to pop in Joules which has recently come to the centre and picked up these seriously cosy cabin socks which cost £6.95. I loved the dog design and they were so fluffy and warm, I’ll admit, I was hesitant to even take them off for bed. I’m definitely going to be stocking up on more!

Now the first thing that comes to my head when I think of cosy is most definitely ‘blanket’ and it was this I search for next at Queensgate. I headed to Primark, knowing that given they were pretty purse-friendly anyway, any sales they had would be a serious bargain. Luckily for me, they had a home event on with discounted products and this super-soft blanket was £3, down from £4. Perfect!

The perfect entertainment for an easy going evening is definitely curling up and losing yourself in a film and HMV had lots of offers to choose from. This Bridge Jones’s Diary boxset was down to £12.99 and as a big fan of the films, I had to snap it up. While Matt might not watch them with me, they would be great for a girly night in. But no film is complete with nibbles and my perfect cosy night needs chocolate! This Continental Winter Collection from Thorntons was singing my name and a real steal at £8, down from £15. With two layers of delicious milk, white and dark chocolates from around the world, this box is a real decadent treat you can dig into all evening.

I spoke a lot in December about Peppermint Bark (check out my recipe here) and my love of it, so I was drawn instantly to the Peppermint Bark Hot Chocolate in Lakeland for just £2.99 in a gorgeous, vintage-style tin. Simply add a spoonful of the white and dark chocolate flakes into hot milk for a minty, creamy beverage: the perfect drink to curl up with on a chilly evening.

A huge thank you to Queensgate for working with me on this fun challenge. I really enjoyed going into the shops and heading straight for the sale sections, ignoring all the other full-price products. I got so much for my money – with £11 left over! – and I’m actually really tempted to do the same thing next time the sales roll around. Loads of these products are still available and there’s so much more to get your hands on, so get looking before time runs out.

I’d love to know what you’ve got in sales – let me know in the comments!

  • Queensgate are always doing so many innovative post ideas with you Emily, I wish the shopping centres in MK were more inclined to work with bloggers in this way. This looks like such a fun post to do and is genuinely something you would want to do this time of the year. I’m in full hibernation mode, whilst looking at holidays obvs! Move over Matt, I’m joining you for Bridget Jones and hot chocolate! 🙂

Interestingly, I’m sure the PRs we work with are the same PRs for MK! I wonder if it’s down to budget hmmm… And haha don’t worry, I’m sure Matt will quite happily ditch me so there’s plenty of room! x

  • Oh you got so much with your gift card, to make a perfect cosy knit in! 🙂

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend! Another extreme weather weekend here. So hot, we are staying near the air conditioner, so a cool night in will be on the cards, rather than a cosy night in like you’ll be having, but chocolate is always a good idea, haha! 🙂

  • Wow I didn’t know HMV was still around! It’s nice to know they’re still around since that’s a Canadian company! I also love Bridget Jones’s Diary, in fact I really need to get my hands on the trilogy.I also love those socks especially since they have those grips at the bottom so you don’t go sliding everywhere :]
