I love getting to know a beauty brand I’ve never used before. There’s a whole range of products to test and get to know and there’s just something quite nice about unwrapping a new lipstick or mascara and not yet knowing it’s potential. So I was really excited when I was sent a collection of No7* products to play with, having recently only been sticking to tried and tested favourites. Naturally, I wanted to let you know my thoughts. So let’s get started shall we?

First up, we’ve got probably my favourite type of beauty product: lipstick! There’s a reason I have far too many after all but what’s one or two more eh? I’ve a habit of sticking to certain brands when it comes to lipstick so I was keen to see what No7 had to offer. They have a few different types of lipsticks on offer within the brand. The first of the two I played with was Pink Blush, part of the Stay Perfect range. The colour was definitely one I would have chosen myself: a really wearable muted pink which felt incredibly comfortable to wear. While it claims to last up for 8 hours, I feel – as with any lipstick claim – this is only true if you don’t eat or drink all day. That said, I was impressed with the holding power. I love the packaging too, sleek and metallic, it feels really luxurious.

Rose Berry, part of the Moisture Drench range was a much more vivid pink which wasn’t a shade I would normally go for. As the name suggests, it really is incredibly moisturising and while I was wearing it I never once struggled with dry lips, which I can often suffer from. While testing my No7 products, I learnt they actually offer a matching service to help you find your perfect match of foundation, concealer, blush and lipstick. You simply need to download the Match Made App, pick up a colour card from your local Boots card to hold in front of your face and the app cleverly matches you with your perfect shade of foundation. Knowing this information will then help the App suggest what colour lipstick and blush you should try. I think this is such a great idea from No7, especially as a lot of people don’t actually like or have the time to visit beauty counters.

We’ve actually – shock horror – been experiencing some hot weather lately which gave me a great opportunity to give the Protect & Perfect Intense Facial Sun Protection a whirl.  I feel like it’s safe to say our faces can often be forgotten when it comes to sun screen. It’s easy to do but by implementing a product such as the Facial Sun Protection into your make-up routine, you’re going to save your skin a lot of damage. I really like how soft it left my skin after application, there was none of the greasiness you can often get with sunscreen. I wasn’t massively impressed with the amount of product you get for £15. 50ml just doesn’t feel very much to me for that price so while I did really like the product, I don’t think I could justify buying it for that money.

I will always use a primer with eyeshadow. It never lasts nearly as long if I don’t, nor does it look as good. I’ve never really parted from my Urban Decay Primer Potion so I was curious how Stay Perfect primer compared. As with most primers, a little goes a long way and Stay Perfect was no different, gliding across my eyelid smoothly. I wore the primer with the No7 eyeshadows you’ll read about below and at the end of a busy work day it remained fixed in place, completely crease free. Ticking all the boxes you could ever be after for a primer, this is definitely a winner.

I don’t wear eyeshadow nearly enough. I absolutely love it and will swoon over and buy the latest NAKED palette but I find myself only gravitating towards eyeshadow only on special occasions. To be honest, it’s a time thing more than anything but definitely something I’m trying to change as I feel much more put together with it on. Putting the Stay Perfect Trio Eyeshadows to the test was the perfect excuse to set my alarm five minutes earlier for a week. Each compact offers three different shades which work wonderful either altogether or alone. It’s entirely up to you what kind of look you create and where you put each colour or you can follow a couple of simple instructions.

The eyeshadows themselves offer highly intensified colours, velvety in texture. They glide on with a brush really easily and only really need one stroke which is great for me on work mornings. While I’m not quite brave enough for the blue/silver combination, there are 11 different compacts on offer so there is something for everything. I love the trios for chucking in your handbag and for travel and I feel that someone like my Mum would prefer having one over a palette for the ease of having to choose between many colours and work out combinations that work.

First things first – how beautiful is the packaging of these mascaras? I definitely did a little squeal as I’m sure I’m actually part magpie and oh hell that glitter. These two beauties are actually brand new for No7 and I’ve no doubt they’re going to do very well. The Lash Impact Ultra is most definitely my favourite of the two, quite simply because I found it to have more of a full-bodied effect. My lashes were long and fluttery without any clumping whatsoever. And at the end of the day, I was really impressed to find that they looked exactly the same without any fallout.

I was a bit confused with the colour of the Lash Impact Waterproof as the label read black/brown and I found myself questioning: “so which one is it?!” To me it’s definitely more black but certainly not as much as the Impact Ultra. As I say, it’s certainly not as much of a ‘wow’ effect either but it still makes for a pretty, natural look. I’m afraid I didn’t get a chance to test the waterproof part but I can confirm after a gym session my eyes were smudge free!

I really enjoyed getting to know No7 and it’s really encouraged me to be a bit braver with trying new brands. No7 have a lot of products on offer, suitable for all ages and I’d thoroughly recommend taking a look online or popping to your local Boots – I certainly will be!
