EASTER WITH HOTEL CHOCOLAT

12th April 2017

You may not have realised, but it’s actually Easter this weekend! Ok so I know there has been a hell of a lot of chocolate over on Musings & More lately thanks to Easter. I’m ending my choc-marathon on a good’un though. Until next year that is! My final Easter event of the year came in the form of a VIP Easter event taking place at Hotel Chocolat at Queensgate Shopping Centre.
We were kindly welcomed with prosecco and encouraged to wander around the store, taking in the chocolately delights. There are 94 Hotel Chocolat’s around the world, not to mention the cafes and restaurants too, so there is a good chance you will have had the pleasure of experiencing one at some point. I’ve always found a real air of sophistication about Hotel Chocolat. When you are buying a box of chocolate from there, you are buying an excellently crafted box of chocolates, made from the finest ingredients. You know if you buy a gift from there that the receiver will swoon with glee at their present, the reputation of Hotel Chocolat exceeding itself effortlessly.
It was because of this that I was more than happy to delve into their Easter collection which every year brings ‘Ooohs’ and ‘Aaaahhs’ from those who visit their premises. You’ve got the ever popular favourites but plenty of new bits to sink your teeth into (literally) as well. Everything in the shop has a heavy connection cocoa, even including chocolate ketchup, pasta and alcohol so even the biggest chocoholic in your life would be a tad overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice available.

After grilling the lovely and very knowledgeable staff (shout out to manager Lucy who was awesome) and filling up on various chocolate samples, I headed home where a few days later I received a package bursting with mouth-watering goodies* from the Easter range.

Because I’m basically five years old, I was particularly drawn to the brand new children’s range that Hotel Chocolat launched this year. There are three very cute characters who are the stars of the show: Elizapeck (caramel), Rabbert (milk chocolate) and my favourite of all, Woolliam (white chocolate). The three friends can be brought in various forms, all together in this lovely little set, or little bags of speckled eggs or perhaps my favourite of all, accompanied by a dinky pot of chocolate drops, as Woolliam is above. The three animals all have fun characteristics that your kids will love, with just the right amount of chocolate for a smaller tummy.
There is no way I can’t not be enchanted when it comes to chocolate in fun, quirky forms. Whatever the price, it just pleases me immensely. Which is why I got on so well with the Egg & Soldiers: milk truffle egglets accompanied by a set of hazelnut praline soldiers. Admittedly, I was confused as to why the soldiers were bigger than the eggs themselves as I had been expecting to be able to dunk the soldiers in but to be honest it just makes them even cuter – and just as yummy!

Now would you look at these fellas in their little bow ties? I’m not lying when I say my pack of Caramel City Bunnies didn’t last the night. Ok, the hour. Don’t judge me ok? The milk chocolate is stuffed full of sweet, runny caramel – the best kind! I guarantee you won’t be able to resist popping these in your mouth one after the other.

The Egg Sandwiches are by no means new from Hotel Chocolat but boy are they favourites! It’s not exactly hard to see why either. There are four flavours to choose from: Milk, White, Caramel and Dark. An actual loaf of granary bread was put through a 3D scanner in order to create the slices of the bread so that the sandwiches look and feel really realistic. How cool is that? They’re even served in takeaway boxes just like the real thing. Again, this is one of those unique gifts that I love and will quite often prefer to reach for other a plain old egg or slab of chocolate.

Finally for the big guns – the Brownie Hard-Boiled Egg. Hotel Chocolat have created this beauty with the perfect brownie in mind: the 50% milk chocolate egg is packed with pecan praline for that deliciously nutty taste of a brownie. You also get six Brownie chocolates which are dense and rich enough that you won’t eat them all at once and can make the experience last even longer. You can get several different varieties of this egg including salted caramel, marzipan, mint and more so there is plenty of choice for all the family.

I hope you haven’t minded the recent influx of chocolate related content but there was just far too much to be excited about! I’d love to hear about your favourite kind of chocolate and if like me, you have a bit of a sweet tooth! And whether you are celebrating it or not, have a fabulous Easter weekend!
