Starting summer with Carluccio's

Be honest. When you're deciding where to go out to dinner, it's likely you'll go back to an old favourite. Sometimes asking your partner the question "where shall we go to eat?" is almost quite pointless as you both know where you're going to end up. This is most certainly true of Matt and I. We find comfort in returning to restaurants we have tried and tested, even if the excitement of a new menu is no longer there. I like remembering how much I loved a certain dish and look forward to having it again. After all, nobody likes to be disappointed.

Elounda Blu - a cretan haven

Last year, we were incredibly fortunate to go on several holidays, the common theme however, being that they were all very busy where we were on our feet exploring most of the time. I'm certainly not complaining by any means but this year, we decided that one long holiday where we could spend hours stretching out in the sun was exactly what we needed. For a change, we thought we would wait as long as possible to book to try and get a better price. I managed to wait until April (which is very good for a meticulous planner such as myself) when we booked 10 days in June to go to the beautiful Crete.

BAKING: Terry's Chocolate Orange cheesecake

It's no secret that I love chocolate. Even though I do Slimming World, I always make sure that there is some form of chocolate in my daily diet. No, it's not healthy but it's so good. While I'm not actually a fan of the fruit version, I bloody love a Terry's Chocolate Orange. It's got a bit of a connotation as a Christmas chocolate for whatever reason but thankfully this baby is available all year round. Have you guessed what today's baking post includes yet? My Chocolate Orange Cheesecake is super easy to make and if you take it along to family BBQ as I did, you'll find the whole lot gone in one day. Yep, it's that good.

Since I'm currently on a bit of health kick lately, I've become well accustomed to a homemade salad. As much as I know the economic benefit of making my own, it can all get a bit dull so when Greggs* got in touch and asked if I'd test salads from different retailers for a taste test, I was well on board.

Glamping with Jollydays

You may remember last year I fell completely in love with North Star Club (read here). After we left, as with all good places we tend to visit, it remained on my mind and when I was invited to North Star Club’s sister camp, Jollydays, I didn’t hesitate in jumping at the chance and a date was booked in for May.

So. Hands up who loves food? I see you there at back, pretending you don't spend at least 70% of your day thinking about food. Who even are you? So anyway...I love food. And I can't deny I get a little thrill seeing new food and drink in the shops. So just for you lovely lot, I thought this week I'd give you a little preview into the up and coming releases you've got to look forward to this Summer. It was a hard job but someone had to do it...

Sunday, 7 May 2017

I don't know if it's just me, but as much as I like Spring, I find it's one of those seasons that  we're all just sitting and tapping our feet through. We're waiting not so patiently for the warmer days and holidays, festivals and BBQs that Summer brings upon us. So with that , this week's post is all about books you can bury your nose in and Netflix shows you can lose hours away to, with the hope that by the time we're all finished, our Summer adventures will be even closer!

Sunday, 30 April 2017

Now I don't know about you but with Summer edging nearer and nearer, I'm in the process of trying to save as much money as possible. There's always so much to do in Summer compared to the confines of Winter when you're more than happy to stay inside cosying up with a warm drink and Netflix. BBQs, festivals, evenings in pub gardens and of course, holidays! All of these wonderful things cost money and we all need a bit more of that eh? Unfortunately as nice as it would be, the green stuff doesn't grow on trees so it falls to us to get a bit creative in order to line our pockets. So in today's post, I'm going to help you do just that!

Speedy dinners with Spicentice

I haven't massively spoken about my weight loss on my blog as it's one of those things that I'm unsure people would really be bothered about? It's something I am toying with though so watch this space! Anyway, my whole attitude towards food has changed since I started following Slimming World with our daily meals being a huge part of that. We still love curries and pasta, roasts and burgers but I've just had to look into finding a way to make these healthier for us. And that's where Spicentice comes in.

You may not have realised, but it's actually Easter this weekend! Ok so I know there has been a hell of a lot of chocolate over on Musings & More lately thanks to Easter. I'm ending my choc-marathon on a good'un though. Until next year that is! My final Easter event of the year came in the form of a VIP Easter event taking place at Hotel Chocolat at Queensgate Shopping Centre.

Sunday, 9 April 2017

If you saw my Easter gift guide a couple of weeks ago, you'll know that I
love chocolate. Despite actually currently following Slimming World, chocolate is something that I always make sure I'm able to fit into my diet. So when Queensgate got in touch to invite me to an Easter tasting event, it was probably the fastest that I'd ever replied to an email. So one Thursday evening, I joined fellow Qbloggers Sabina and Laura for the serious business of chocolate tasting!

One of my favourite ever blog posts I’ve written (and actually one of my most popular) is my review of the Beach Cove Coastal Retreat. So when I was invited to stay at one one of Beach Cove’s sister resorts, Cheddar Woods Resort and Spa, based in Cheddar in Somerset, I immediately knew I was in for a treat. So on the weekend of the 24th, we packed up the car and Luna before embarking on the three and a half hour drive to Somerset. Rather luckily, our visit just so happened to take place on one of the nicest weekends weather-wise that we had enjoyed all year with a cloudless sky and beaming sun.

It genuinely feels like it wasn't so long ago that it was Christmas so I can't quite believe that I'm sitting here writing about Easter! That said, there's plenty to love about Easter so I'm more than happy to be indulging and bringing you my first very Easter gift guide! I like to think I've covered most bases here so let's get into it shall we?

I don't actually go to many concerts. Like anyone I love music but I'm not too fussed about seeing many people live (though y'know, Ed Sheeran if you fancy throwing some tickets my way...). What I do try to do is see my favourite comedians when they go on tour. I bloody love spending a couple of hours in a room full of laughing people, you know that proper deep belly laughs where you even cry a little. Yeah. That. So back in 2015 when Matt and I discovered one of our favourite comedians Russell Howard was going on tour in 2017 (yep, you have to book that far in advance!), we knew we had to book tickets. March 2017 was our date and the Royal Albert Hall was our venue of choice.

Flash forward two years and as a Christmas present, Matt's parents kindly supplied us with a hotel stay for the night of the show so we could make a weekend of our trip to London. I love London but rarely get to enjoy it for longer than a day so for the last few weeks I'd plotted where I wanted to go and what I wanted to buy. To conclude this rather large introduction, this week's post is a photo diary all about our weekend in London!

Saturday, 11 March 2017

I'm fairly new to the coffee world. It was only last year when I was in London for work that my boss asked me what I wanted to drink from a coffee shop that I realised that I just couldn't keep ordering a diet coke forever. Because let's be honest, a coffee is a lot more sophisticated. So from that day, myself and lattes became well acquainted.  So when Greggs got in touch to ask if I wanted to take part in their coffee taste test challenge to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, I jumped at the chance! The concept was simple: taste coffee from four separate stores and rate them using a scale of 1-5 with 1 being good and 5 being amazing. I decided to choose the same drink at all four places so it was a fait test. Here's how I got on:

Pret A Manger

When: Saturday 4th, London

What: Latte
How much: £2.25

As a lover of all things unicorn, I decided my next
bakes would be inspired by the mythical creatures. So here we have my Psychedelic Unicorn Bark which I think is a great gift for friends and family when wrapped up in cellophane or simply for snaffling when you're feeling peckish. I haven't baked shortbread for a long time so thought I'd give the classic recipe a try but with my own personal twist - dipped in chocolate and merrily sprinkled with joy sweetness. These are incredibly easy recipes and it's likely you already have a lot of the ingredients in your house already. Now let's get baking!

Long distance relationship survival guide

Long distance relationships are now more common than ever. We are going to University and taking jobs further and further away from our loved ones. We are meeting online, on Tinder, in different countries. For a lot of us, long distance relationships are a huge part of our lives and a reality to deal with every day. They are challenging and frustrating but most of the time,
so worth it. In case you hadn't figured it out, today I'm going to be discussing LDRs (as they shall be known for the remainder of this blog post) and more importantly, how to survive them.

Beauty on Trial #4

It amazes me that we're on number four of Beauty on Trial! I'm certainly not complaining though as I've really enjoyed testing products in-depth for you! For those of you aren't aware, all products in this month have been used for over a month (if not longer) and photos are taken before this time because quite frankly, that's when they look prettiest! Now this month there are a few new brands so, let's get started shall we?

The scandi lifestyle trends you should be following

I'm sure it's not escaped your notice that the Scandavanian lifestyle has been a lot more present in our own lives lately but I'm actually
loving it. I think there is a lot we could learn and it's a really positive thing. In this weeks post, I'm going to talk you through two popular 'trends', one you'll definitely know and another you might not.

An introduction to Charlotte Tilbury

To be honest, I'm not really one for high-end beauty. I couldn't tell you anything about Chanel or Dior because I simply don't get near them. The high price tags associated with such brands stings me and I'd much rather spend the money towards a holiday quite frankly. That said, there is one exception...

Foodie Photo Diary

By my very nature, I am a planner. I consider myself to be very organised and this seeps into most (all!) parts of my life. So when I learnt we were going to be heading to Manchester for my Birthday, I immediately headed to my good friend google to discover what the city had to offer in the way of food. Or to be more specific - dessert! I came across two delights that were not to be missed. Before our journey into  Manchester city centre, our hotel kindly laid out a little spread for my Birthday. It certainly started our break on the right note!

What is mindfulness and how do I achieve it?

You might have heard the word mindfulness thrown around here and there but apart from hinting towards being something to do with the mind (duh), it's not exactly clear. So this week, I've decided to try explain a little more...

BAKING: Kinder Bueno Cupcakes

I can't resist a good cupcake and frequently have to stop myself buying expensive ones in London, especially when I know I could make my own for a fraction of the price! I recently fell in love with Jane's Patisserie blog and the vast array of gorgeous treats so decided to give one of her recipes her go. One of my very favourite chocolate bars are Kinder Buenos and realising I hadn't actually baked with them before, it was decided that Kinder would be my hero product in this months recipe.

Your winter survival kit

Winter is a bit rubbish really isn't it? And that's coming from a winter baby! I don't particularly enjoy the cold weather although I enjoy the fashion; I'm all about wrapping up cosy and wearing big jumpers with jeans and ankle boots. I also love toasty nights in with hot drinks and candles... Anyway. This weeks post is all about helping to make your battle through the Winter months that bit easier so read on to discover what you need in your winter survival kit!
