MAC and Sephora Haul

Something I was really looking forward to when visiting America last month was the shopping. I knew that the US would have so much that we don't in England and boy was I right! It actually got to a point where at times I would walk into a shop, wander around and then walk out again. There was just too much! Somewhere I dived straight for though was Sephora, of which we don't have one of and I'd never been in before. Imagine the heart eyed emoji, that was literally me as I took in the rows and rows of make-up brands that I'd only ever read about online.

I genuinely wish I had researched more online before I'd ventured into the store as I just kept going round and round, stopping and starting, not knowing quite what to put into my basket. There was such a vast amount of choice and knowing that I would get the products for less than I would in England, I really wanted to make the most of the time. I actually think I did pretty well considering and only ended up picking up two items.

The first was Anastastia Beverly Hills Brow Whiz. Now, I've never used anything on my eyebrows. Ever since I was younger, I've had big, Hermione-esque eyebrows that until the last few years, I'd left well alone before venturing into plucking and waxing. I actually find them quite daunting to do and it's something I just don't know where to begin with. I have this massive fear of touching them actually, I see so many girls with brows overdone and it just looks awful! I'd heard very good things about Brow Whiz and if I was going to start attempting to touch my brows, why not start with the best? However. Having tried to use this multiple times, I'm really struggling! I'd love to hear any tips or be directed to any advice you can give as I can't seem to tell much difference after using Brow Whiz. What am I doing wrong? I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I should start with an easier product first!

Next up and more successfully, was the Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray . Again, this is something I'd never used before but I was sold by the idea of keeping my Make Up fixed on my face. It's a seriously weightless spray. It supposedly lowers the temperature of your make up to give it longevity. I don't know if this is true but I do know that it has seemed to keep my make-up on for longer than usual, though not from morning to night and I'd argue any product that claims to do so is a complete myth. However this is something I will firmly be keeping in my make-up routine.

We have access to MAC stores back home but being on holiday, I felt a bit more frivolous and fancy free with my money.  I adore everything about their lipsticks and have a long list on my phone of the next ones I want to buy next, so I was always going to have to pick up a couple. My shades of choice was Twig and Captive and I love them! Captive is a satin pink-plum and Twig is a satin pinky-brown. Both glide on wonderfully and are rich in colour and are just what I want to take me into Autumn.

I'd gone into MAC originally to purchase Studio Fix foundation but when the make-up artist applied it to my skin, I hated how it sat on my skin which can often be dry at the best of times. Noticing this too, she explained MAC had a new Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation and we tried that instead. What a difference it made! My skin was flawless to the point that when I left the shop to go back to my patiently waiting boyfriend (what a saint!), he stared at me and asked: "I thought you'd had your make-up done? Your face looks all...perfect!" Now that was all the confirmation I needed that I'd made the right decision! I'm so pleased with the foundation, though my own gripe would be the small amount you get for the price.

Sephora is the most incredible shop and I can't wait to go again! Have you ever been to one? What did you pick up?

  1. GAH this post! I too have never been to a Sephora yet, only read things about it, I’m so excited for when I do eventually get to go! But - this post has been so, so helpful Emily! I have pretty thick eyebrows naturally but I do want to buy a pencil or a setting gel just to perfect them a bit, I had been considering this anastastia beverly hills brow pencil but I might research a bit more! I’ll let you know if I find anything helpful :)

You have definitely cemented that I need the urban decay setting spray, and those two mac shades are just SO beautiful, I think I might get Twig soon! Hehe. P.S. I need to go to a MAC counter soon now and try this foundation out!!!

  2. I have MACs captive and I love it for fall season! It was my first MAC lipstick, it was the reason why I started collecting lipstick from the brand.

  3. When I went into a Sephora for the first time, I was like a kid in a candy store. It was overwhelming and fantastic at the same time. It makes me realize that although there are places in London I wish we had, there are plenty of places from the US I would miss if I left here.

  4. Great picks! I'm really intrigued by the new Mac foundation! Pity you're having trouble with the the Brow Wiz, I haven't tried it but use a Soap and Glory pencil that's meant to be a dupe, I just do little hair like strokes to fill in any sparse bits and make the shape a bit better then brush through!

  5. I went to Sephora in Barcelona recently, but was really disappointed with their product range! I actually can't think of a single product which isn't available somehow in the UK, with the exception of the ITcosmetics range. I use Beauty Bay, Cult Beauty and Roses Beauty Store; between them, they sell all the beauty brands you'd expect to only be available in the US!xx

    1. I find that it's nice to be able to play around with a product in person or if you need shade matching, but I definitely need to check those websites out - I've never tried Roses Beauty Store, thanks for the tip! xx

  6. Where abouts in America did you go? Oh never mind I just saw Orlando haha. I went last May and IT WAS THE BEST HOLIDAY OF MY LIFE. I didn't go to Sephora in Florida but I went to the one in Paris and it was pretty sweet.

  8. I definitely relate, except for me, it's when I visit the UK and go straight for Topshop and New Look! Sephora is very overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for exactly, but it's great you ended up getting products that really work for you. I hope you enjoyed your trip to the US!

  17. Aww I loved reading this! Seeing what different makeup brands they have abroad is one of my favourite things about going on holiday hahaha!! I've never tried Brow Wiz but maybe try it with a light hand first? Sorry I can't be of more help :( Never heard of that MAC foundation but I have dry skin too so will definitely be on the lookout for it!

  19. USA must have seemed dreamy to you. I never fill in my brows because I don't like filling them and keep my brows natural and free of any unwanted hair, that's it. . I loved the shade of Mac twig, such a lovely autumnal color. Great picks:)

  26. Oh my goodness, I felt exactly the same when I finally visited Sephora after not entering one for more than a year. It was just overwhelming and I had no idea what to get. In the end I picked up a few full size and some travel size that's available while queuing up at the checkout.

  32. I LOVE the brow wiz. For me, I mark a single line from inner to outer corner of my brow, and making individual lines, thicker on the outer, but less on the inner. Then I brush it through, and clean it up with a concealer. It makes it the most prefect brow with a liner.

  40. Love the look of that setting spray as it annoys me when I spend forever on my make up and then it just goes in a matter of an hour! I adore MAC lipsticks, I recently purchased diva which is so popular and is an amazing lipstick for Autumn.
